Do you have a young child that loves hockey? He or she can't enough of the game, and loves going to the rink... Dreaming of someday playing in the NHL and hoisting the Stanley Cup... Would you ever want to get in the way of those dreams? Of course not... And, although making the NHL is tough, you would be doing your child a disservice if you didn't do everything you could to help him/her work towards their dreams, agreed? Today I'm going to tell you how you can help your child make their hockey dreams a priority with youth hockey-specific training... Following A Hockey-Specific Youth Training Program Can Help Your Child: Increase Their Power and Explosiveness So That They Can Skate Faster and Blow By Opponents On The Ice Improve Their Coordination and BalanceAllowing Them To Be More Comfortable Skating With The Puck And Create More Scoring Chances Develop Better Conditioning Levels So That They Are Full Of Energy Every Shift And Skating Fast For The Entire Game Improve Mobility and Flexibility To Become A More Fluid Skater So That They Can Be More Agile And Dangle Around Opponents Increase Their Overall Confidence So That They Trust Their Abilities On The Ice And Lead Their Team To More Wins Set Themselves Up For Short and Long Term Potential In Hockey By Improving Their Overall Athleticism During Their Most Important Years For Physical Development What Makes Ages 8-14 So Important? During these ages, your child's central nervous system is being molded like clay... How your child goes about his/her daily life determines important long-term athletic ability in qualities such as: Coordination Balance Kinesthetic Awareness (muscle memory & body awareness) Stride Frequency What your child is doing physically between the ages of 8-14 is going to have a huge impact on their athletic potential down the road... It's kinda like buying a new puppy... If you were to let the puppy do its own thing for the first year and then start training it to listen when it turned one year old you would have an extremely tough time and probably end up with a dog that didn't listen well... As a dog owner, I know that this would actually make the dog sad... Dogs want to learn and they want to be a good dog. And not giving them that opportunity is unfair. The dog may eventually become a "pretty good" dog, but it will never reach what its true potential was... The same can be said for kids... If the child talks about his/her dream of playing in the NHL and you know they love playing hockey, it would be unfair to them to not introduce some safe hockey-specific training and athletic development at this young age... Without training during the youth ages, your child might still become a good hockey player, but he/she will never reach their true potential. But Isn't Training At A Young Age Unsafe? No... If you are following a safe program designed by a professional specifically built for youth athletes it is extremely safe. One could argue that's it's more unsafe to have them play such a high velocity and high impact sport, like hockey, without training their bodies to be able to handle it properly. When we talk "Youth Hockey Training" we aren't talking about having a young kid load up heavy weights on a bar and try to perform something that you would see an NHLer do in the gym... We are talking about things that they might do in gym class - jumping, sprinting, push ups, bodyweight squats, planks, jumping jacks, etc. And when the kids get to around 12 years old we can start to safely transition them into more of the hockey training movements the older kids might be doing... But again, they aren't going to be picking up 40, 60, 80-pound dumbbells like they might see NHLers doing on Instagram... We are talking about 5, 10, and 15 pounds, and in a safe and controlled manner suitable for young ages. When designed by a professional, a youth hockey training program is safe for young athletes and highly recommended if you want to help set your child up for success. We need to keep the training fun for the kids or else they won't stay engaged. To do this we ensure the workouts aren't too grueling or long. FUN

SAFE Safety is a main priority here, and this is why a complete 'program' is better than just choosing 'workouts'. We progress them in a safe and effective manner. Most young athletes like to play their sports at the highest level possible. They want to succeed. They strive to be the best. We as parents can give them the tools to be the best they can be by providing them the necessary training to perform.

You'll also be setting them up for a future where physical fitness is part of their daily lives which, whether they make it to the NHL or go on to a totally different career a d this is a huge win for both you and your junior athlete.
